About the Castle Hotel

The Castle Hotel, an old coaching inn, stands on the site of a Cistercian abbey and used to consist of two famous hostelries, The Castle and the 15th Century King's Head. The Castle was by far the larger and in Victorian times has had an attractive face lift of local granite and Ruabon brick and is now one of Conwy's most photographed buildings.

The hotel has had a fascinating past and has made an important contribution to Conwy's history, playing host to many famous people, such as Telford, Stephenson, Wordsworth and the Queen of Romania who lunched in the restaurant whilst visiting Llandudno. In the 20th Century, the ownership of the Hotel was almost exclusively by London based companies and it's fitting that this wonderful old hotel reverted back to private ownership in the summer of 2000.

Since then, the famous old hostelry has had a major upgrade and improvement programme and now sits proudly once again in the middle of the town and the hub of the local community. The style is now relaxed and comfortable in a more contemporary environment.

Dining

Dawsons @ The Castle Hotel...

After a major upgrade, an eclectic menu to suit all tastes is served in both Dawson's Bar & Restaurant. This menu changes regularly and is supplemented by seasonal additions and a Sunday luncheon when local Welsh beef is always served. In the warmer months, the new Courtyard Garden, features a "Dipyn Bach" menu, tapas style 'small bites' food.

The food reflects all that is good about local Welsh produce, a real 'Taste of Wales' and the hotel's experienced team's non- fussy approach to the restaurant business.

Expect to see the likes of "Pan roasted breast of pheasant and confied leg on a venison sausage and puy lentil casserole with sticky red cabbage" on the menu. But, if on, the local Conwy mussels are must try.
